Science Online '09: Friday Night
First - stalked various science bloggers in the lobby. I totally missed my lemur trip because my plane was an hour late... so I hung out in the lobby and ran into Tom from
Inverse Square, then Aaron from Wired, James from
Island of Doubt,
Acmegirl,
Bill,
Jean-Claude... and probably some others all wandered in.
It was time for dinner - but there were no takers - everyone had eaten or was eating later or in their room. Acmegirl generously agreed to accompany me, so she sat with me while I started my burger. She left to go to the wine tasting, but then
Miriam waved me over to their table. So I finished my burger with her,
Danielle, Daniel,
Erin, and
Danica (who's research area is actually not that far from my own)
We headed over to the WISE Event: "Women, science, and storytelling: The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks (a.k.a. HeLa), and one woman’s journey from scientist to writer".
There are a lot of parts of this story that are more than a little disturbing. But it was fascinating and I was glad to hear it. Too bad we have to wait a year for the book :(
